Going in and out of Malaysia is not new to me but in Malacca, it’s my first time to be there then.
In this modern era, finding hotels around the world is already an easy-breezy thing with the help of various platforms such as Agoda.com, Hotels.com, Airbnb, and the like. Among these sources, we managed to see Bayview Hotel as the cheapest hotel around the famous spots in Malacca, offering a 2-bed room at SGD$49 with free buffet breakfast that time is truly an affordable one.
My cousin and I just go to Malacca by bus and from Singapore to Malacca should be just 4 hours excluding the stop-over, immigration checkpoints and heavy traffic at some immigration checkpoints. During our trip, it took us about 6 hours till we reached the Malacca Sentral (Bus Terminal).
Since it’s unsure of how long this journey would be, better have some snacks with you that you can grab anytime during the trip or just buy some food on the stop-over shops. Don’t forget to bring or change your money to Malaysian Ringgit (RM) since most of the shops in any part of Malaysia do not accept any other notes except Malaysian Ringgit.
From Malacca Sentral to Bayview Hotel, we needed to take cab since it’s still but not so far from the said terminal. A lot of cab queueing around the area but be careful of whom to deal with in taking cab; check whether this cab goes by meter or not, because some just arrange a fixed price say RM20 to Bayview Hotel from Malacca Sentral which is actually indeed cheaper if you go by meter. Such thing happened to us, the driver arrange a RM20 trip to the hotel which we don’t have any idea how really that trip cost on a usual basis and how really long the trip would be so we just grab the offer. It’s not even 5-minute drive from the terminal to the hotel then the driver suddenly asked us for RM30 and insisted that we just overheard the price and it’s not really RM20 but RM30. It’s hard to say but we believed that we just got scammed then.
The room is good and big enough for two person though as what the reviews say that most of the rooms were really old and needed a repair. This problems they’re talking are evident in the bathroom; some visible stains on the tub, walls, and sink. We didn’t stay much inside the room since we planned to go around the place during our visit but one thing I noticed is the television set the hotel provided; the cable reception is not good, most shows are locally and in Bahasa, and the English movies were too outdated. It would be great if they have exciting shows available in their cable provider for guests who chose to just stay in the room during their stay in the hotel. All in all, SGD$49 is great enough for a big room and a buffet breakfast for two. Food for breakfast is good too. There are enough food to choose from their different food variety, fresh and great tasting.
There are other amenities awaiting for us like the gym and the swimming pool but since we’re booked-in for just an overnight stay, we were not able to try these things. I just noticed that the pool is too small and I’m afraid this can’t accommodate guests who want swim during their peak season where number of guests are huge. Surely it would not be a swimming pool at all but just a dipping pool.
